Have you started thinking about your New Year’s Resolutions yet? Resolution time is sneaking up on us and chances are we will all make a very well-intended list that will be quickly abandoned - intentionally or not. I like this idea from this month’s Self:
Create inspirations, not ultimatums, with these lists instead:
"I’M PROUD OF…" Logging your 2008 achievements reminds you that you’re in control of your life. You’ll be spurred to make more good stuff happen, says Nancy O’Reilly, Psy.D., a clinical psychologist in Springfield Missouri.
"I WON’T CRITICIZE MY…" Counteract your inner critic to tackle any endeavor with confidence and claim success.
"I CAN’T WAIT TO…" Pledge to partake of pleasures big (a weekend away?) and small (playing guitar?) for a happy 2009. - Melissa Daly
(1/09, pg. 17)
I kind of cringe at making resolutions but these actually sound like fun lists to make. I think taking a moment to reflect on what I’m proud of will put into perspective the things I’m kicking myself about this year. And it will make me stop criticizing myself for those things and take time to rectify them in ‘09. And I always like to have something to look forward to - trips, new hobbies - I’ve got a few things in mind that I want to make happen next year. I’m mentally checking them off right now.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
