A natural lip was a major makeup trend seen on the red carpet at last night’s SAG awards. Emily, Kate, January, Viola, Penelope and Angie are just a few of the lovely ladies that chose to go this soft yet sultry route. Leaving their lips defined yet otherwise un-hued let them play up the color on their cheekbones and accentuated their eyes. I love a nude lip not only because it looks beautiful but for practical reasons too: If I’m out, I don’t need to worry about constantly reapplying lip color. It’s a lower maintenance look that still manages to look va-va-voom.
The key to a great nude lip that still looks polished is finding a lip pencil that complements your natural lip color. Lining your lips helps define the look and shows that your natural lip is intentionally designed, instead of looking like you forgot a step in your makeup. I am a huge fan of M.A.C.’s lip pencils, especially their CremeStick Liners, and since they have such a wide selection of colors you’re sure to find your perfect match. If you want to experiment with the look before investing in a liner, then pick up a lip pencil for a few bucks the next time you’re at the drugstore. Finish the look with a touch of clear gloss (or my go-to, Vaseline) and you’ll look lovely in nude!
