I am still floating on an Oscars high.  Last night’s show was the best I have ever seen.  The set was gorgeous, the way the categories were introduced was innovative, which made me care about each one, and every time a major award was presented with past winners acknowledging current nominees, I cried.  And Hugh Jackman was fantastic - yay to Craigslist dancers! And Baz Luhrmann’s compilation of movie musicals was so fun.  And Kate won and her dad whistled.  I could go on and on. Sigh.

Beyond the actual show, was the fashion - which is a major reason most of us tune in!  We saw a lot of muted colors, not unlike the previous award shows this season.  Lots of off-white and black, playing it safe and looking lovely but nothing too outstanding.  Which is why Natalie Portman gets my vote for best-dressed.  When she presented last night, I thought she looked gorgeous.  The color of her gown is being described as “orchid” and it perfectly complemented her skin tone.  It’s a color we don’t see often on the red carpet, but I don’t know why not.  It’s beautiful!  I found out this morning that her dress is by Rodarte.  Of course! I can’t get enough of that design team.  I also liked how Natalie kept the look from being too saccharine by having a dark color on her nails and  really emphasizing her dark eye makeup by keeping the rest of her makeup light handed and fresh.  Her simple swept up hair style was equally elegant and unfussy.  Yes, yes, yes.
