Watch out, shorties: Tyra’s coming for you! The Cut has the scoop on the new season of ANTM (no, not the season that’s set to premiere next week - the season after that, the one that’s about to start casting!), and it’s downright, um, abbreviated. What I’m trying to say is that Tyra has resolved to cast only women who are 5′7″ and under (!) for the thirteenth cycle of Top Model. As the show’s casting director explains, shorter ladies have been clamoring for a chance to get on ANTM since the very beginning, and “the show is all about
opportunity … Kate Moss is a prime example. Tyra knows a stream of supermodels that are under that size and are very successful, so she said, ‘Why not?’ It’s gonna be all about the face and the package as a whole.” Okay, fair enough: Kate Moss is, indeed, 5′7″ - positively eensy weensy by supermodel standards. So a relatively short top model is definitely possible, if not entirely probable. Then again, ANTM isn’t exactly in the business of producing models that set the fashion world on fire; it’s more of a fun guilty pleasure. What do you think? Could Tyra’s gamble pay off with real high fashion results, or is this simply stripping the show of its last lingering vestiges of industry cred?
