Beauty sleepEveryone knows that sleep is important for your health, your general sense of wellbeing, and your appearance. (Hey, if this wasn’t common knowledge, we wouldn’t have a term like “beauty sleep” ingrained into our heads since childhood!) Yet for some reason, it seems like everyone skimps on sleep, even though there are new reasons why you need it coming out almost everyday. For instance, I was surprised by this little tidbit from Glamour: “Sleeping less than 7 hours a night may triple your risk of getting sick when exposed to a cold virus.” (April 2009, p.138) Wow! I have been getting sick much more frequently lately, and I have to wonder if lack of sleep is to blame. Plus, did you see that little sleep-yourself-skinny experiment that Glamour ran back in February? They asked a group of women to commit to sleeping at least 7.5 hours a night, while not changing anything else about their diet and exercise habits, to see if they would lose weight just from sleeping more, and guess what? They did! All of them! Pretty incredible stuff. So tell me: Are you getting your beauty sleep?

How many hours do you sleep each night?
