I love do-it-yourself projects, especially when it comes to beauty. It’s kind of amazing the things you find in your kitchen that can up your beauty factor. My scalp has been very dry lately so I’ve been looking for a good way to nourish my scalp and my hair at the same time. I think an olive oil hair treatment is going to do the trick!
Here’s the secret:
- Set aside a small bowl (about a cup’s worth) of room temperature olive oil.
- Wet your hair with warm water and remove the excess water.
- Next, with a towel on your shoulders to protect any clothing you may be wearing, part your hair down the middle.
- Dip your fingers in the olive oil and massage it gently into your scalp, at the root of your hair.
- Continue to part and dip until you’ve covered your entire head.
- Once you are done you can pile your hair on top of your head and cover with a shower cap for extra conditioning. Leave the cap on for about 30 minutes. And if you want to make it a hot oil treatment, blast your cap-covered-head with a hairdryer for a few minutes.
- Rinse the olive oil hair treatment out of your hair and shampoo with a gentle cleanser.
Voila! Silky hair and a moisturized scalp! An easy do-it-yourself treatment to try over the weekend. But, be aware, this is not the best treatment if you have a naturally oily scalp. If you do but want the same moisturizing treatment for your hair, then apply the oil to the ends of your hair and avoid your scalp. You can still get the nourishing effects without an oily build-up. Have fun!
