In the July issue of Marie Claire, Cameron Diaz discusses her thoughts on plastic surgery and body image - and it’s not quite what I was expecting. First, she bemoans her body type, saying, “I’d love a bigger butt, more meat on my bones. I’d love to be more voluptuous.” Really?! I mean, okay, we’d all love to look like Salma Hayek sometimes, but it’s hard to believe that the woman with one of most enviable bods in Hollywood feels as dissatisfied as the rest of us. I can’t decide if that’s humanizing and endearing or just plain sad. She also goes on to say that, although she’s against more, um, recreational types of plastic surgery, she did have a nose job recently after breaking her nose four times (a surfboard was apparently the culprit). I had no idea! (This photo is of Cameron on the red carpet at this year’s MTV Movie Awards. Do you see a difference from her “old” nose?) Cameron also admits that she is sometimes taken aback when people stare at her on the street, with her immediate reaction running along the lines of, “What the #$%! is your problem? What, am I horrific-looking?” before she realizes that they’re probably just surprised to see a celebrity out and about. What do you think of Cameron’s surprisingly low self-esteem? Do you think she’s being genuine or is it a put-on to make her seem more down to earth? Weigh in with a comment!
