The Sartorialist has been a hugely popular fashion blog for quite some time now. If you haven’t already had it bookmarked for ages, here’s the gist: Style fan Scott Schuman takes photos of really well-dressed people on the street. That’s it! And yet it can be incredibly inspiring - or hugely intimidating, depending on your current fashion frame of mind. I have to admit that sometimes I feel a bit suspicious of the site - everyone is so well turned out and so chic and put together that I feel like they must be carefully styled models. But I guess Mr. Schuman probably frequents more fashion-forward cities than I do! In any event, some of the blog’s best shots have now been compiled into a book, and I love this quote about Schuman’s intentions: “…an attempt to showcase the wonderful and varied sartorial tastes of real people - not only those of the fashion industry.” Kind of sums up the beauty of the Sartorialist - and serves as a great reminder that true style has nothing to do with where you buy your clothes, but rather how you wear them. Look for the paperback version in bookstores this week.
