You already know that I loved the Gucci maxi dress that Blake Lively wore to the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 premiere, and one of the most striking qualities of the dress was the bright orange color. Orange has recently been enjoying a surge of popularity among fashionable celebs, probably because it has something of the sunny, playful attitude of yellow mixed with the bold sexiness of red. In other words, it’s a color that really stands up for itself on the red carpet, but is still casual enough to be adapted for everyday wear. Plus, it comes in a huge variety of shades, from creamy peach to burnt pumpkin, so you can go as soft or as strong as you want.
Like any strong color, orange looks best when it’s allowed to be the centerpiece of your outfit - that means soft makeup, a neutral shoe (you can’t go wrong with nude or black) and minimal accessories. I think Blake does it best by accenting her gown with one golden cuff, but Jessica Simpson and Victoria Beckham show that even movie star sunglasses or an oversized bag can work, as long as they’re your only sizable accessory. Of course, if you don’t want to wear orange from head to toe, there are lots of ways to add a little splash of orange to your life without fear of overdoing it.
