I’ve got a bone to pick!

Who is Lucky marketing to these days???  I am fully aware that, for quite some time now, Lucky has been more fun to look at than functional to use as a shopping guide.  The items they usually feature are most likely in the hundreds of dollars range and I have come to expect and accept that.  It’s also why I cancelled my personal subscription to Lucky.  I couldn’t relate anymore.

But at Latest Beauty headquarters we have a subscription to stay abreast of the latest.  And when we got this month’s issue I was excited to see they have a new section called "The Web Pages."  It is their picks for best shopping sites online.  Since I practically live online, I was anxious to see their picks.  And when I saw the box of of Amy Pak’s (senior online editor) Top Four Sites I thought, Hmm, Promising!

Here is the direct quote from her first pick:

PIXIEMARKET.COM for dresses  Prices are so affordable on this site that I have to restrain myself from overloading.  Plus, you won’t locate the cute, graphic tops and dresses it carries anywhere else. (10/08, pg. 74)

Needless to say, I was very excited to hear about this!  Please note the "so affordable" statement from Ms. Pak.  Now, my love for dresses is something I’ve never  been shy about and my love of "so affordable" dresses trumps all of my fashion picks any day.  So I quickly took myself to PixieMarket.com, full of notions of giddy shopping possibilities…

…I feel so mislead.  I feel frustrated.  I feel confused.  Their dresses are very cute, there is no doubt about that.  But the "most affordable" one was $78 and it was on sale.  There are literally five other dresses, out of 51 items, that are under $100.  Again, $78 was the lowest price.

So my questions are as follows:  Am I out of touch?  Are these "so affordable" prices?  Or is it the other way around?  Is Lucky out of touch?  Because they sure seem to be marketing to the 20 to 30-something crowd, that I fall into, and these picks are anything but "so affordable" to me.  Even my more successful friends, that also are in this crowd, don’t regularly spend hundreds of dollars on single items of clothing.  Should we be?

Please weigh in on this!  I need to know the answers to these burning questions!

Am I out of touch?
