great lashAm I the only one who had no idea that Maybelline’s iconic Great Lash mascara was so polarizing?! (See the user ratings on the Drugstore.com page - click the link above - or check out the Bella Sugar debate.) I thought that keeping a tube of Great Lash around as your go-to mascara was standard procedure, but I was wrong - this is love-it-or-hate-it stuff. It’s definitely a pro makeup artist staple (like Meagan, I don’t think I’ve ever had my makeup professionally done by anyone who didn’t have a tube of it in their arsenal), but Great Lash detractors tend to complain that the mascara is sticky, tends to clump and does little in the way of adding volume or length. Personally, I’m a fan, so here are a few tips for making the most of your Great Lash:

  1. Wipe the brush before you apply the mascara. This will remove excess product and reduce clumping and stickiness.
  2. Apply the mascara slowly and thoroughly, from the roots to the tip of your lashes. Don’t just swipe it on - take your time with it.
  3. Angle the brush while applying. In other words, don’t just hold it horizontally and sweep the mascara on that way; tilt it a little so you’re pushing your lashes to the side (away from your nose) during application. This will give you an eye-opening, curling effect.
  4. Always comb through wet lashes with a metal lash comb to remove any remaining clumps.

That’s it! That’s how I put on my mascara, and I’ve never had a problem. Great Lash may not be the be-all, end-all for amazing lashes, but I think it’s a great choice for the money. What do you think?
